Thinking of buying a (used) car
I'm thinking of getting either a used BMW 3series, Audi A4, or Lexus IS300. I don't want to spend more than ~15k. At that price point, the vehicle will probably be around 5 years old with 65k miles.

I'd hesitate to buy a used 3 series. Think about who buys them new. Young punks who drive 'em into the ground. No thanks.
What's wrong with your current car? Isn't a car just about getting from point A to point B? Consider potential maintenance costs, too.
Until recently, my thinking was similar to your thinking. But now, because my commute is much longer than before, I end up spending much more time in my car. It would be nice to enjoy that time in a nicer vehicle.
I knew someone who bought a used Audi and had tons of problems with it. She ended up trading it in for a new car.
I personally like the Lexus IS300. I think it is a great car. I don't know why anyone would want to drive anything else. heehee... hey.... I am an IS300 owner. What can I say. -joanne
